Bonjour, Montafon: sights to see

Journey along the Silvretta High Alpine Road, a picturesque toll road winding its way between the towns of Gaschurn-Partenen in Vorarlberg and Galtür in Tyrol. Spanning roughly ten kilometres and 32 scenic hairpin bends, it offers unparalleled views of the Austrian Silvretta’s highest peak, Piz Buin, which stands 3,312m above sea level. For an enhanced experience, consider driving a vintage car! Notable landmarks enroute include the Silvretta and Vermunt reservoirs, interspersed with eateries and sports facilities.

Distance: 10 kilometres (to the Partenen toll booth)

The Vermunt cable car is located in Partenen in Montafon and transports you swiftly and securely into the Silvretta Mountains. The aerial tramway effortlessly overcomes a difference in altitude of almost 700 metres. From the mountain station, you can continue on the yellow tunnel bus, also known as the tunnel taxi, all the way to the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe. Good news for your holiday with your dog in Montafon: your four-legged friend can accompany you on the mountain railway at no additional charge.

The mining museum in Silbertal offers exciting insights into the world of mining in Montafon in the 15th and 16th centuries. Engaging for adults and children alike, it invites you to delve into the miner’s challenging daily life of yesteryear. Informative archaeological finds, impressive illustrations, and historical documents will transport you to the late Middle Ages and the beginning of modern times.

On the Alpine Coaster Golm, you can whizz down into the valley at a speed of up to 40 kilometres per hour – even in the summer months. The summer toboggan run is 2,600 metres long and includes 44 jumps and a breathtaking 360° spiral. Nearby, the Klobensattel mountain hut offers regional specialities.

For sun-seekers, swimmers, and splash enthusiasts: Alpenbad Montafon is the largest outdoor adventure pool in the region. With over 15,000m² of sunbathing space, you’ll find everything you need for a relaxing pool day: a large natural bathing pond with a dedicated area for non-swimmers, 50-metre lap lanes, and a diving pool, varied adventure pools with water fountains, slides, a children’s pool and play area, and much more.

A beautiful circular trail with a wonderful view of the Silvretta leads around Wiegensee lake. This idyllic lake lies in the heart of a unique moorland landscape with mountain pine forests and rare plants. You can hike to Wiegensee lake from the mountain station of the Tafamunt cable car. Return to Partenen via Verbellatal and the Ganifer.
